Maryam Rajavi held talks with Chairman of the Friends of a Free Iran inter parliamentary group at the European Parliament
Mrs. Rajavi had been invited by MEPs to attend a European Parliament meeting in Brussels on the eve of the International Human Rights Day.
Mr. Deprez welcomed Mrs. Rajavi to Belgium and on behalf of his colleagues at the European Parliament stressed that an overwhelming majority of members of the European Parliament strongly condemn violations of human rights, particularly the arbitrary executions, torture and inhuman treatment of prisoners, in Iran. Despite false claims of moderation by the clerical regime, he said, we at the European Parliament have experienced these political games repeatedly since the 1980s and concluded that “moderation” is not anything applicable to the religious fascism in Iran.
Gérard Deprez extended his wishes for the victory of the Iranian Resistance and establishment of freedom and democracy in Iran. He admired the progress of the Justice Seeking Movement for the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran and asserted that the growing movement once again attracted world attention to the dimensions of the clerical regime’s inhuman crimes and savagery and did not let the wave of pragmatism and commercial interests in Europe overshadow the principles of human rights.
Mrs. Rajavi expressed her gratitude for Mr. Deprez and his colleagues’ expressed support for the Iranian Resistance. She said, “Unfortunately, the West and European Union’s policy of appeasement and their illegitimate concessions to the Iranian regime, have contributed to the rule of a regime that not only oppresses and murders the people of Iran but is the epicenter of export of fundamentalism and terrorism to the region and the world.”
Mrs. Rajavi expressed hope that the Parliament of Europe would play its role in rectifying and replacing Europe’s approach with a decisive policy against the religious fascism ruling Iran. This is the Iranian people’s just and urgent desire and essential to peace and tranquility in the region and the world.
