Tragic loss of great lawyer, human rights champion, friend of Iranian Resistance, Cherif Bassiouni
A fine scholar, he was a chief architect of the International Criminal Court at The Hague and spent a life time investigating war crimes, genocides, and crimes against humanity. In 2003, he wrote a legal opinion in defense of the rights and status of the residents of Ashraf.
The passing of Professor Cherif Bassiouni is not only a tragic loss for the law community but for human rights and human society in general.
I would like to extend my sincere condolences to his family and to all advocates of justice.
May others follow in his footsteps and pursue his endeavors as our world is gravely in need of passionate guardians of justice and principled human beings such as Cherif Bassiouni.
