Iran: Coronavirus death toll exceeds 2,000
Maryam Rajavi urges youth to save lives while taking protective measures
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has announced that the number of fatalities of Coronavirus in 105 cities across Iran has surpassed 2,000. In the past 24 hours, hundreds of people, particularly in Tehran, Rasht, Anzali, Astaneh, Rudsar, Someh-Sara, Chalus, Isfahan, Khansar, Kermanshah, Karaj, Mashahd, Qom, Saqez, Alishter, Tuyserkan, Baneh, Urmia, Dezful, Marand, Najaf-Abad, and Yazd have lost their lives. The number of those affected by the virus is increasing exponentially. The Iranian regime has reluctantly, albeit belated, has cancelled Friday prayer congregations and collective prayers in mosques.
It has also closed highways to many provinces including Yazd, Gilan, Fars, Qazvin, Zanjan, Ardabil, Kerman, Isfahan, Golestan, Semnan, Lorestan, Mazandaran, Kermanshah, Khorasan-Razavi, Kohgiluyeh, Sistan and Baluchistan.
The situation in Gilan Province, especially Rasht, is critical, where more than 300 people have died. Jafarzadeh Imen Abadi, majlis deputy from Rasht, said on Friday: “The number of people infected with, or killed by, Coronavirus is horrific. Even test kits are not available… there are no beds in hospitals for new cases in Rasht and surrounding areas… we need new medical staff because many doctors and nurses have caught the virus or are so tired that they cannot provide services.” Zabih Nikfar, another member of majlis from Lahijan, said: “Gilan has the worst situation in the whole country.”
Kuseh Gharavi, majlis deputy from Golestan Province, said: “The situation in Golestan province is terrible and the figures given are not so realistic.” Quoting university officials, he added: “The number of people infected by Coronavirus is rising exponentially… I hope special measures would be taken to bring it under control.” The number of victims in Golestan province is at least 175.
Qazvin’s Governor has issued a red alert, closing all public places, shrines, museums, mosques, and residence halls.
Last night, in a television address to the Iranian people, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), emphasized that the mullahs’ criminal conduct in the Coronavirus crisis is the flip side of its great massacre of protesters during the uprising in November 2019. When their rule is in danger, the mullahs have no mercy on anyone, she emphasized, adding,
the Iranian people’s fight against the Coronavirus is a part and parcel of their struggle against the inhuman clerical regime to establish freedom and democracy.
The NCRI President-elect called on all supporters of the PMOI/MEK and the Iranian Resistance in Iran to assist and care for those who have contracted the virus and help save the lives of their compatriots, while taking all the necessary safety measures for themselves, using the full range of available medical resources.
