Iran: Execution of 18 Prisoners in Four Days and 166 Executions Since the Inauguration of New President
Maryam Rajavi’s Call for Immediate Action to Save Prisoners: Relations with This Regime Must Be Conditioned on Ending Torture and Executions
Today, Sunday, September 15, Khamenei’s executioners hanged two prisoners, Saeed Khajeh Heydari and Sasan Bozorgzad, in Shiraz prison. This brings the number of executions in the past four days to at least 18. On September 9, nine prisoners were hanged, on September 10, two were executed, and on September 11, five were hanged. In addition to the prisoners whose names were mentioned in previous statements, on September 11, Kiomars Alaei was executed in Qazvin; on September 10, Mansour Salari in Jiroft and Mostafa Fashi in Kermanshah; and on September 9, Abdolkarim Habibi in Kahnuj.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stated that the regime seeks to suppress public anger, especially during the anniversary of the 2022 uprising, by resorting to executions and killings. She condemned Khamenei, calling him the “Zahhak of our time” (a mythical tyrant figure), who brings mourning to more families each day. Emphasizing that the regime’s brutal human rights violations are tied to its warmongering, terrorism, and pursuit of nuclear weapons, she added that the regime views the international community’s inaction in response to the wave of executions as a green light to continue its crimes and violations of international law.
Maryam Rajavi called on the United Nations, relevant organizations, the European Union, and its member states to take immediate action to save the lives of prisoners. She stressed that continued economic and political relations with this regime must be conditional upon the cessation of torture and executions.
