Two US House representatives call Maryam Rajavi and discuss the uprising and developments in Iran
Two US Congressmen, Danny Davis (D), a senior member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, and Steve Cohen (D), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice and co-chair of the Congressional Iran Human Rights and Democracy Caucus, called Maryam Rajavi and held talks online about the latest developments regarding the uprising in Iran.
In talks with Rep. Steve Cohen, Maryam Rajavi said, “Women play a leading role in the protests, but their demands are not limited to the freedom of choice in choosing their attire. They want equality in every aspect, including economic and political leadership. They also know that so long as this regime is in power, they will not achieve their rights. Therefore, the Iranian people demand regime change.”
Representative Cohen commended the efforts of Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance, and all those who work for Iran’s freedom. He said, “That’s what we all in our caucus are for. That is a free and independent Iran that respects the rule of law and the people’s rights and is a non-nuclear friend of the world.”
He added, “I hope we will have that. We see the women protesting in the streets.
“I thank you for what you are doing. I thank everyone who is working for freedom in Iran. I assure you that I will remain on the frontlines to supporting the protests, supporting a fee Iran.”
In the end, he expressed his wish to see a free Iran and travel to a free Tehran.
In her talks with Rep. Danny Davis, Maryam Rajavi pointed out that the Iranian people’s nationwide uprising has entered its fourth week.
“Most of the martyrs are young girls and boys such as Zakaria and Arman in Zahedan, or Hananeh in Nowshahr, and Nika Shakarmi, a 17-year-old girl that was brutally tortured and her body was handed over to her family with a broken skull. The regime threatened her family that they must not talk, but her mother has bravely exposed this crime.”
Maryam Rajavi added, “I remember the late John Lewis, that was an icon of human rights in the US, once said: ‘Fight the good fight,’ and now the Iranian people and Resistance Units and rebellious youth in the streets of Iran are determined to do so.”
Representative Davis closed his remarks by saying, “I admire your work, and we continue to support it. Thank you very much, and we will follow up soon and encourage our government to be as supportive as possible; I always say the struggle must continue, and we will conquer without a doubt.”
