Maryam Rajavi meets Javier Zarzalejos and Jan Zahradil at the European Parliament
During her visit to Brussels, where she delivered a speech titled “Iran: Perspectives for Change and EU Policy” at a European Parliament conference, Maryam Rajavi held meetings with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) representing various European countries and parliamentary groups.
In her meeting with Mr. Javier Zarzalejos, co-chairman of the Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI) parliamentary intergroup, Mrs. Rajavi expressed her gratitude for his and FOFI members’ efforts. They discussed the situation in Iran, including the brutal executions carried out by the religious dictatorship, the regime’s impasse, and the state of the uprising and Resistance. Mrs. Rajavi called for increased efforts in Europe to halt the hangings in Iran and to adopt a firm policy against the tyranny of the mullahs.
Javier Zarzalejos stated that the warm reception of Mrs. Rajavi by MEPs and their unwavering support for the Iranian Resistance demonstrate that the European Parliament is well aware of who represents the Iranian people and their Resistance. He also emphasized that there is now a solid foundation for blacklisting the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and that FOFI will continue its efforts following the European Parliament’s strong resolution.
In her meeting with Mr. Jan Zahradil, Vice-Chairman of the EP’s International Trade Committee, he said he had been an MEP for 20 years and acquainted with the Iranian Resistance since the first day. He said the Iranian Resistance now enjoys greater support than ever in the European Parliament. He also noted that the Iranian regime’s threats to peace and security are widely recognized within the parliament, especially considering the geopolitical changes following the war in Ukraine, which have heightened concerns about the regime’s actions.
Mr. Zahradil added that there are discussions about tensions within the Iranian opposition. However, he believed that if these tensions are related to the former Shah’s son, it is a deliberate attempt by others to distort reality and sow discord. He cautioned against highlighting the remnants of the previous dictatorship, as it ultimately benefits the current dictatorship, with the Iranian people paying the price.
