Iran: Coronavirus death toll reaches 5,950 in 194 cities
urges UN Security Council to intervene urgently to secure the release of prisoners, especially in Fashafouyeh prison
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/) announced this afternoon, Tuesday, March 17, that the Coronavirus death toll has reached 5,950 in 194 cities in all of Iran’s 31 provinces. The number of victims in Isfahan, Gilan, Khorasan Razavi, and Fars provinces respectively is 600, 733, 501, and 152. The situation in Hamadan, Markazi and Yazd provinces is getting worse with 129, 115, and 120 losing their lives respectively. The names of 100 victims in Aran and Bidgol in Isfahan province have been obtained by Resistance Units.
Despite stage-managed shows and lies by the mullahs’ regime during the World Health Organization (WHO) delegation visit to Iran, Dr. Richard Brennan, the emergency director for the Eastern Mediterranean region of the organization, said after returning from Iran, “The officially reported cases may account for just a fifth of their actual number.”
At the same time, the mullahs’ anti-human regime has intensified its censorship and repressive measures to prevent the dissemination of the news on Coronavirus disaster. Yesterday, the commander of Isfahan’s police commander announced the filing of 60 dossiers for those who have spread false news, saying: “The people who spread the false news in this regard were identified by Isfahan’s cyber police.”
On March 14, Tehran’s police chief, (first name) Rahimi, announced the arrest of 27 people for spreading rumors about Coronavirus news in cyberspace. On March 10, Ali Muzzafari, the head of Qom’s judiciary said, “Any news, interviews, and reports that are false propaganda … will be dealt with legally.” On March 5, Kayhan, Khamenei’s mouthpiece said those who send bogus reports must be charged with “corruption on earth” and sentenced to death. “By monitoring the cyberspace, 262 criminal cases have been identified, 69 of which have led to arrests, etc. For 101 cases, judicial dossiers have been filed and are being processed,” according to a spokesman for the police force on March 4.
In another development, residents of Isfahan are increasingly furious over the regime’s failure to provide the minimum health care and mismanagement of the crisis. Most of the regime’s officials in Isfahan have left the city in fear of the virus or are holed up in their homes. The Governor’s Office and the city governorate are partially closed.
The situation in Tehran is getting worse every day. Some days 30,000 people go to hospitals with a significant number of people infected with the virus. The facilities of the hospitals are by no means responsive to so many patients. Many of the dead have been buried in Tehran, Qom, and Golestan as victims of influenza.
The Associated Press quoted a researcher at Sharif’s Industrial University in Iran as talking about the collapse of Iran’s health care system and the possibility of millions of deaths if medical facilities are not made available to the victims.
Offering her condolences to the Iranian people, especially those in Aran, Bidgol, Yazd, Arak, and Hamadan, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), again called on youth and popular councils to support and assist those infected with the virus. She urged the brave youth to take the initiative by implementing hygienic measures across the country and to rush to rescue the people from Coronavirus and the ruling mullahs, whom she described as the real virus.
Mrs. Rajavi again called on the UN and the Security Council to intervene urgently to secure the release of prisoners, especially in Fashafouyeh prison, where political prisoners are on hunger strike. Prisoners say that we dying as several inmates have already died because of the Coronavirus.
