Maryam Rajavi: Democratic Islam is the most effective anti-thesis to Islamic fundamentalism
Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in a video message to the International Congress of Examination of the Rights of Women and Children held on July 20th in San Rousso in Italy said that the democratic Islam is the most effective anti-thesis to Islamic fundamentalism.
International Congress of Examination of the Rights of Women and Children was sponsored by UNICEF and held near Pisa in Italy. International experts and specialists from all over the world looked for solutions on the violation of rights of women and children in different societies.
In her video message, the President-elect of Iranian Resistance said: “I talk to you at a time when my country is under siege by the worst enemy of peace and democracy in the world. Religious fascism has held the Iranian people in a big prison. Its export of fundamentalism and terrorism has created a disastrous crisis in the Middle East. They try to explain their crimes under Islamic laws. Islamic fundamentalism is nothing but a backwards understanding of Islam. Its heart beats in Tehran. Its specific traits are suppression, religious discrimination, expansionism and more than anything else, misogyny which has caused the torture and execution of tens of thousands of dissenting women.
Maryam Rajavi stressed the importance of finding solutions to the threat of fundamentalism and explained three important experiences of the Iranian Resistance in this regards. She stated that the democratic Islam is the most effective anti-thesis to Islamic fundamentalism; it supports compassion, consideration and peaceful living which are the real messages of Prophet Mohammad. Islam is fundamentally against suppression and discrimination and supports democracy and free choice. The mullahs say that the suppressive laws and misogyny are god’s decree. But this claim is baseless.
The main edict of Islam is people’s rule. And it is the people who establish their laws.
Islam rejects imposing religious beliefs on others, defends equal rights between men and women and could create basic advancement in the destiny of Muslims; especially women and could profoundly reject fundamentalism.
In her message to Women and Children’s Congress in Italy, Maryam Rajavi also stated: Another key experience we have had in our struggle against evil of fundamentalism is that we have witnessed the fact that as the struggle gets harder, women play a more vital role. They have the highest potential to stand up to fundamentalism. Women’s struggle for equality is at the heart of their resistance against fundamentalism which is a necessity for establishment and progress of democracy, hence defeat of fundamentalism.
The President-elect of Iranian Resistance noted the extraordinary role of Iranian women in the resistance.
In another part of her message, Maryam Rajavi said: Our third experience is to offer a solution to the regional crisis and that is democratic change in Iran.
We believe that the policy of appeasement has failed to solve the crisis of exporting terrorism and nuclear threat of the mullahs. Foreign war and military intervention will not resolve this crisis either. There is a third option which is democratic change by Iranian people and Iranian Resistance.
Maryam Rajavi denoted the policy of appeasement of the western powers with the mullah’s regime and on behalf of the Iranian people, especially the women appealed to the experts, specialists, officials in the International San Rousso Congress and the Italian people to stand up with the Iranian people and support their resistance for establishing democracy.
