Iran: Coronavirus death toll exceeds 17,500 in 240 cities
Maryam Rajavi’s hailed all dedicated doctors and nurses, calling them symbols of the Iranian nation’s pride
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) announced on April 4, 2020, that the death toll for the Coronavirus in 240 cities exceeds 17,500 across Iran. The number of victims in Tehran 2170, Mazandaran 1,500, Khuzestan 840, Hamedan 440, Yazd 350, Zanjan 340, Fars 325, Kurdistan 320, Central Province 280, East Azerbaijan is 240, North Khorasan 225, Sistan and Baluchestan 190, Ilam 145, and Semnan 120.
Vatan- Emrouz daily, affiliated with Ali Khamenei’s faction, blamed Rouhani for all the mistakes and wrote that Rouhani’s inaction left many victims; the lives and properties of Iranians were victims of Rouhani’s decisions! In the Coronavirus crisis, the government missed a golden opportunity to fight the spread of the virus due to the inaction of the head of the Executive Branch.
In another development, today, Alireza Zali, head of the Counter-Coronavirus taskforce in Tehran, told state official news agency: “We may still see a new wave of coronavirus outbreak in Tehran. The number of patients coming to health centers and hospitals and patients who are admitted to the ICU and other sections indicates that we have not yet reached a stable situation in terms of the outbreak in Tehran. It will be the sheer negligence to think that we have overcome the crisis. This could be very misleading, and we may face worse conditions.”
Meanwhile, Mostafa Moeen, head of the Supreme Council of the Medical System and former Minister of Science, Research and Technology, said, “The government’s actions have not been very successful and defendable. Lack of alerts and prediction, including not suspending Mahan Air flights to China, a belated recognition of the virus outbreak, lack of transparency or cover-up, repeated unscientific or contradictory statements by state and health officials, lack of a quick and firm decision to quarantine the city of Qom, the long delay in implementing social distancing and restrictions on transportation and intercity travels, lack of basic safety facilities and protection for doctors, nurses and medical staff, which led to the loss of the best and most specialized medical personnel, as well as the loss of numerous patients that was not on par with global standards, and the lack of masks, gloves, and disinfectants on the national level, are examples of that inefficiency.”
Mohammadreza Zafarghandi, head of the regime’s Medical Council, told the state daily Hamshahri, “So far, about 170 doctors and nurses in Qom have been infected with COVID19, and 37 doctors and nurses have died.” “The virus outbreak in the country was not taken seriously; if measures had been taken more seriously, we would not have been affected so much by the epidemic,” Zafarghandi added.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), offered her condolences on the loss of lives and hailed the nation’s doctors and nurses for their sacrifices despite all limitations imposed by the ruling religious fascism. They are symbols of pride for the Iranian nation, she said.
At the same time, expressions of anger and frustration by the regime and its mercenaries because of the revelations of the Iranian Resistance about the regime’s cover-ups continue unabatedly. Khamenei’s mouthpiece Kayhan Daily, while referring to the video clips released about the Coronavirus tragedy and widespread protests quoted Abdolreza Azizi, a member of the regime’s parliament as saying, “These are fake, even some of these videos are produced in Albania where the hypocrites (regime pejorative term to describe the PMOI / MEK) are based. People should be cautious about this propaganda.” Keyhan also quoted Mohammad Hosseini, a former Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, as saying: “Some treasonous people are trying to question the Islamic system and mock some of the sanctities, and of course they have people inside (Iran) who are ready to take advantage of this situation.”
