Iran: The staggering Coronavirus death toll in 427 cities exceeds 100,000
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi: This tragedy is the result of Khamenei and Rouhani’s policies. They will cause a greater tragedy by reopening schools
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Monday, September 7, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 427 cities across Iran has tragically exceeded 100,000. The number of victims in Tehran is 24,345, Khorasan Razavi 7,164, Mazandaran 4,854, Isfahan 4,574, Lorestan 4,402, Semnan 1,307, Yazd 1,249, Qazvin 874, and Ilam 852.
Meanwhile, public concern over and opposition within the regime to the reopening of schools have been heightened. According to the state-run daily, Asr-e Iran, Zahra Sheikhi, spokeswoman for the Health Commission of the regime’s Parliament, said, yesterday, “Deputies to the Education Minister told us, “The reopening of schools was decided by the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce-NCCT (chaired by Rouhani) and has been implemented by the Ministry. Moreover, we will implement any decision taken by the NCCT.” Also, the state-run daily, Resalat wrote today, “We closed universities for several years due to the Cultural Revolution. In the current situation, schools must also be closed. The reopening of schools amounts to genocide.”
Regarding the tragic Coronavirus crisis in Iran and more than 100,000 fatalities, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said: This scale of the death toll is the immediate result of the criminal and inhuman policies pursued by Khamenei and Rouhani. This was entirely preventable. They are now producing a more massive catastrophe by sending children to school. Khamenei and the Revolutionary Guards do not spend even a fraction of the hundreds of billions of dollars they have plundered from the Iranian people to combat the Coronavirus. Nor do they even pay the salaries of nurses and doctors and medical staff who work around the clock and risk their lives and those of their families to save the lives of patients. Even though the regime’s experts and mid-level officials unanimously describe the opening of schools to be dangerous, by causing mass casualties, the regime seeks to create a barrier against the crisis of being overthrown and overshadow popular uprisings.
