Donald Trump vows immediate crackdown on Iran’s ‘murderous regime’ from day one

Story by Paul Baldwin, Brigid Brown
Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State under Donald Trump’s administration, issued a stern warning to Iran’s leaders, asserting that the incoming president intends to impose a “maximum pressure” policy to bring down the brutal regime.
Pompeo harshly criticized U.S. Democrats and EU officials for what he calls appeasement toward both Assad in Syria and Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei, claiming such an approach would come to an end, once Trump is back in office, which the White House is preparing for with tightened security.
Pompeo said: “I am confident that after January 20 that will not happen again.”
He added: “Trump will return to office in just a few days. He has talked in detail about bringing back his ‘maximum pressure’ campaign that had proved so successful.”
During a prominent gathering with Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian opposition group National Council of Resistance of Iran, at their base in Auvers-Sur-Oise, France, Pompeo made bold assertions regarding regional security dynamics.
He insisted that Assad is now seeking refuge in Russia, fearing for his life, and projected that the leadership in Iran could face a similar fate.
Pompeo also touched upon Iran’s influence via proxy organizations. He said: “In Lebanon Hezbollah has been reduced from what was perceived as a powerful force to total impotence – a blessing for the Iranian people and the world – and the Ayatollah was powerless to stop it.”
He added: “And most importantly Syria, the bridge between all the Iranian proxy force, I think the fact it fell so quickly shows what a paper tiger it was. It told the world that the Ayatollah is finished too.”
“The Ayatollah has been revealed as a complete chancer who only rules by fear, and his day is quickly coming to an end.”
Lastly, he claimed that the militant groups, like Hamas, are nearing utter defeat in Gaza.

She emphasized the impact of a robust grassroots resistance led by the MEK, which she claimed was instilling fear in the regime, and declared: “The next dictatorship that must be overthrown is the mullahs’ regime.”
Her remarks were met with a standing ovation.
Similarly, Mr. Pompeo was greeted with a standing ovation after he highlighted the MEK’s role as a seasoned force crucial for regime change in Iran.
M.S. Rajavi outlined a 10-point plan for Iran’s future during the transition period and stressed: “New US policy, as the new administration comes in, needs to create even more space for the Iranian resistance to be vigilant on the ground. The focal point of this policy has to be recognition of the Iranian people’s right to resist and to recognition of the National Council of Resistance of Iran as the single best alternative to the clerics that are ruling Iran.”
The former Secretary of State expressed confidence that human decency would prevail over the Ayatollah’s regime’s brutalities.
He affirmed: “This is worthy because it is going to lead to an outcome you have worked so hard for for so many years.”
“It is worthy because it is the right thing for all of the Iranian people, and it is worthy because in the end it will hold to account the slaughterers, the indecent and those who committed atrocities and such horrors.”
He concluded by reflecting on recent regional events, stating: “What we have seen take place in the last few months throughout the region the absolute clarity… this has shown about this devastatingly weak regime that in the end human decency will triumph.”
Amnesty International reports that Iran was responsible for 74 percent of all recorded executions worldwide in 2023. This disturbing trend has continued under the new President Masoud Pezeshkian, who took office last year.
In August 2024 alone, over 670 executions were carried out, including 10 women. Among the victims are numerous political dissidents, such as Reza Rasaei, who was arrested during the November 2022 uprising in Shahriar, Tehran province.
A significant number of MEK activists have been sentenced to death in recent weeks.
