Maryam Rajavi meets Italian Senator Pellegrino, a member of the Senate EU and Human Rights committees
On Monday, January 8, 2024, Senator Cinzia Pellegrino, a member of the EU policies committee and the Extraordinary Committee on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights at the Italian Senate visited and held talks with Maryam Rajavi.
In this meeting, Ms. Pellegrino lauded the role of the Iranian Resistance as a serious and legitimate resistance movement that has been fighting for more than 50 years for the Iranian people’s freedom and particularly for the rights of women. She stated this extensive history and the sacrifices made in your struggle against the dictatorship in Iran provoke immense respect and trust. Such a formidable force is unparalleled elsewhere in the world. Therefore, my colleagues and I in both houses of the Italian parliament defend and advocate for your movement at every opportunity.
Recognizing the democratic plans of the Iranian Resistance and its worldwide support, Ms. Pellegrino said, many movements tend to confine themselves and gradually lose momentum over time. Yet, you have persevered and strived throughout the years to offer the world a true alternative to the Iranian regime. That is why we stand in support of your cause and remain hopeful for your victory. After all these years of hardship and sacrifice, it would be very beautiful to see you achieve your goal.
Maryam Rajavi conveyed her gratitude to Senator Pellegrino and extended New Year’s greetings. She praised both houses of the Italian Parliament for their steadfast support of the Iranian Resistance, emphasizing the movement’s relentless fight against two dictatorships over 58 years, bearing a heavy cost. Maryam Rajavi stressed, “We believe the sole solution for the Iranian people is the overthrow of this criminal regime and the establishment of a democratic republic founded on universal suffrage, the separation of religion and state, and gender equality.”
She highlighted the clerical regime’s role not only as an enemy of the Iranian people but also as a leading force fostering war and terrorism in today’s world, particularly in the Middle East.
“The IRGC and its proxy groups have devastated vast parts of the Middle East and left them soaked in blood,” she added. “The regime’s overthrow isn’t solely the Iranian people’s aspiration; it’s also a prerequisite for peace and stability in the region and the world.”
