Maryam Rajavi Meets with MEPs in Brussels
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Maryam Rajavi held a meeting with Ms. Rasa Juknevičienė, Lithuanian MEP and Vice-Chairwoman of the European People’s Party Group, along with Mr. Stanislav Polčák, Czech MEP, and Mr. Cristian-Silviu Buşoi, Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, at her residence in Brussels. The discussions primarily revolved around the situation in Iran and the status of the Iranian people’s resistance and uprisings.
Ms. Rasa Juknevičienė, who previously served as Lithuania’s Minister of Defense in 2012 and as President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in 2018, currently holds a position in the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Defense and Security. During her meeting with Maryam Rajavi, she expressed her familiarity with the dictatorship and emphasized that the European Parliament, as a pillar of European democracy, should consider the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as a strong and viable alternative to the Iranian dictatorship.
Ms. Juknevičienė also acknowledged that MEPs are aware of the psychological warfare being waged by the regime against the Iranian Resistance, a tactic commonly employed by tyrannical regimes worldwide. She concluded by emphasizing that Mrs. Rajavi and the Iranian people deserve the right to attain freedom above all else.
Mr. Buşoi, reflecting on Maryam Rajavi’s dedicated efforts on behalf of the People’s Mojahedin in Ashraf-1, emphasized the widespread awareness of her impactful campaign. Despite Western countries’ condemnation of the human rights situation in Iran, he stressed the importance of complementing criticism with tangible sanctions and concrete measures. He warned that without such actions, the regime would persist in its repression of the Iranian people.
Mr. Polčák further stated that MEPs have been steadfast supporters of the Iranian Resistance for years and affirmed their commitment to continue efforts aimed at isolating the regime as much as possible on the international stage.
Expressing gratitude for the support of the MEPs, Maryam Rajavi advocated for a resolute policy to confront the brutal repression of the Iranian people, and the blackmail, and hostage-taking perpetrated by the religious dictatorship. She argued that European governments should acknowledge the right of the Iranian people and youth to defend themselves against the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
She concluded by emphasizing that our struggle against the terrorist dictatorship of the mullahs transcends the pursuit of freedom solely for Iran. It is a cause that serves the interests of the people in the Middle East, Europe, and other parts of the world.
