Iran: Retirees protests in 18 provinces
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi: The retirees’ cry in the four corners of Iran is a manifestation of the voice of a nation that wants the end of the velayat-e-faqih regime
On Monday, June 6, 2022, thousands of social security retirees and pensioners took to the streets against the clerical regime, plundering their salaries and ignoring their legitimate demands for increased pensions in at least 18 provinces. The protesters chanted, “Death to Raisi,” “Death to the regime that deceives people,” and “Our enemy is right here, they lie, saying it’s America.” While inflation has skyrocketed and the prices of many basic commodities’ have multiplied, pensions have risen by only 10 percent.
In Tehran, the protests took place outside the regime’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Protests were also held outside the social security offices in Karaj, Tabriz, Ardabil, Urmia, Zanjan, Rasht, Mashhad, Bojnurd, Isfahan, Shiraz, Qazvin, Arak, Kermanshah, Bandar Abbas, Kerman, Ahvaz, Dezful, Abadan, Shush, Shushtar, Mahshahr, and Khorramabad.
In Shiraz, retirees carried a large empty tablecloth as a sign of their destroyed livelihood. In Tabriz, the protesters repelled the repressive forces who wanted to prevent them from marching. In Shush, municipal workers joined the retirees and marched with them outside the governor’s office.
Enraged retirees also chanted: “Death to Raisi, dishonorable liar, what happened to your promises,” “You, sixth-grader (i.e., Raisi), what happened to your promises, ” “Raisi, shame on you, leave the country alone,” “Our enemy is right here, they lie saying it’s America,” “Our tables are empty, enough of empty promises,” “The Government betrays, parliament supports,” “We will not accept humiliation,” “Retirees die, but will not accept humiliation,” “Only by taking it to the streets, we can obtain our rights,” “Retirees, worker, unity,” “When the inflation is 100%, what should our just salary be?” “We will not rest until we obtain our rights,” “We will not accept injustice,” “We have heard many lies, we have seen no justice,” and “High prices and inflation are taking people’s lives.”
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed the retirees who have tirelessly stood up for their rights, saying that today the cry of “Death to Raisi,” by the honorable and freedom-loving retirees have echoed across Iran. This reflects the Iranian people’s demand for an end to the ruling theocracy.
