After two weeks of tiresome talks and after changing eight time the draft agreement with Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Iraq, which were in violation of all agreements and the provisions of the MOU, and earlier agreements with the Government of Iraq, finally more than 400 residents of Ashraf left for Liberty at about 20:00 local time.
Searching the belongings and people lasted 8 days under unbearable hot weather since Friday, April 27, until this evening, Mary 4. Transfer of half of the belongings of the residents was left to a later stage. The transfer of the fifth group took place upon the insistence of the US Department of States special advisor on Ashraf and the UN Secretary General Special Representative. This took place contrary to numerous letters and emails by Ambassador Kobler, the Iraqi authorities even opposed taking special vehicles and trailers for disabled people. After two weeks of intense negotiations and communications, it was only agreed that one minibus for 400 m six utility vehicles (3 water tankers, 2 sewage tankers and 1 fuel tanker) will accompany the fifth convoy. But a few hours after the convoy had left Ashraf at the presence of UN monitor, the residents realized that there was no utility vehicle in the column. They called and informed their friends in Ashraf immediately. For one hour neither travelling residents nor Ashraf residents were able to contact monitors. Subsequently, it was known that upon the orders of Iraqi authorities, all the utility vehicles that each had an Ashraf resident onboard had been returned to Ashraf. Redirection and return of utility vehicles to Ashraf from half way to Liberty before the eyes of UN observers is a filthy trick and betrayal aimed at relocating the fifth group to Liberty where there is no water, fuel or service vehicles. It is reported that, while on their way to Camp Liberty, the group contacted the UN Secretary General Special Representative for Iraq and US authorities demanding their immediate return to Camp Ashraf.Maryam Rajavi, who upon her request the fifth group had agreed to leave Camp Ashraf for Liberty, called for immediate intervention of the UN Secretary General and US officials and announced that until when this issue is resolved and all agreements are fully implemented, she would not advise anyone to move to Liberty from Ashraf. In consecutive statements, the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees has repeatedly stressed on the rights of freedom of movement for the residents of Camp Liberty but the camp remains a prison surrounded by armored vehicles.
