Dr. Vidal-Quadras is the symbol of a historical protest against the policy of appeasement
On Thursday, February 29, 2024, Maryam Rajavi welcomed Professor Alejo Vidal Quadras, President of the International Committee In Search of Justice and former Vice President of the European Parliament, on his first trip to Paris after surviving the Iranian regime’s terrorist attempt on his life in Madrid.
Members and supporters of the PMOI and the National Council of Resistance of Iran gave him a stormy welcome with flowers and chants of “Viva Alejo!”
In part of a speech welcoming Prof. Vidal-Quadras and his wife, Amparo, Maryam Rajavi said:
“On behalf of all PMOI members, and all members of the Iranian Resistance, I welcome you, dear Mr. Vidal-Quadras, and we are extremely happy that you are here with us, today. For all of us, this is a moment of great joy and pride.
“For our Resistance, Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras is a man who has combined policy and dignity. He never gave in and he pioneered the right policy against the Islamic fundamentalist regime ruling Iran.
He is the symbol of a historical protest against the policy of appeasement of the religious fascism ruling Iran.
“The mullahs brutally targeted him, but they failed. They want to eliminate those who testify to the truth of our time. Nevertheless, he survived in a great miracle, which the people of Spain call “the Miracle of Quadras.” And today, he is with us. Yes, he is a living martyr.”
Maryam Rajavi extended her gratitude to Ms. Amparo, Mr. Vidal’s wife, and added, “You personally felt the risks of continuing this path, but you chose to fight. This is the secret of all the heroes we do not see, but decide the fate of the struggle.”
Maryam Rajavi concluded her remarks by saying, “Tomorrow, the regime will hold a sham election. However, since June 20, 1981, the Iranian people and Resistance have never deemed such theatrics as bearing any legitimacy. They vote for the overthrow of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran.
“Ali Khamenei, beset by various crises, disqualified not only the so-called reformists within the regime but also a large portion of his own faction. Khamenei wants to protect his regime from the uprisings and resistance by further contraction of the regime and escalation of suppression.
“The Iranian people, however, vote for the overthrow of this theocracy. There is no doubt that the clerical regime has no future. Future belongs to freedom-loving people and anyone who is willing to pay the price for freedom.”
The next speaker was Professor Alejo Vidal Quadras, President of the In Search of Justice Committee. In his remarks to the audience, he said:
I send this message to Tehran: you followed two objectives with this attack. First, you wanted to get rid of me and second, to frighten hundreds of politicians in Europe and America who support Mrs. Rajavi and the Iranian Resistance. However, you did not reach any of your goals. I am alive and those politicians have doubled their activities in support of the Iranian Resistance. My blood has now joined the blood of the martyrs of the Iranian Resistance.
Mr. Struan Stevenson, former member of the European Parliament and ISJ Vice President, was also present in this ceremony and addressed the audience during which he said:
What shocked me was that Alejo pointed his finger at the Iranian regime in the moments of life and death. I tell Alejo, your being alive is a victory for the PMOI and a major setback to the mullahs. We will continue our battle wherever there is injustice.
